Kaskelantie Vantaa

Description

Consolis Parma key player in the construction of an eco-friendly residential building

The building that houses 127 residential apartments at Kaskelantie 1, in Vantaa, Finland, has just received the highest Finnish ecolabel: the Swan. The label, introduced by the Nordic Council of Ministers, is only awarded to the most environmentally friendly products.

NCC Construction Ltd designed the ‘Kaskelantie 1’ building for VAV Asunnot Oy, the organisation responsible for constructing and managing rental accommodations in Vaanta. VAV’s Managing Director, Teija Ojankoskelle, explained the challenges of this eco-friendly project, “The use of natural resources and energy consumption are high in a residential building, especially during construction. We wanted the building to be eco-efficient and provide great air quality throughout its entire lifecycle. This meant using environmentally-friendly materials and surrounding ourselves with experts in sustainable solutions.”

Parma’s experience in designing eco-friendly precast concrete solutions was key for the project. Parma delivered a new building façade, hollow-core slabs, and elements for partition walls, elevator shafts and round Betemi pillars.

Parma’s precast concrete elements offer long-term durability and ease of maintenance”, project engineer Emma Suokas said.

We have been cooperating with Parma on projects for a long time. We particularly appreciate their expertise and ability to work hand-in-hand with us to develop the solution that perfectly fits the need of the project”.
