Consolis and YIT in Finland to partner on low-carbon hollow-core slabs, certified for the Green Spine Line®

Consolis Parma and YIT, the largest Finnish and a significant North European development and construction company are taking a significant step towards low-carbon construction. This is a major step for Consolis Green Spine Line® certified products.

The low-carbon hollow-core slabs, certified according to the Green Spine line® criteria, are the result of a joint product development effort between YIT and Consolis Parma.

Consolis Parma certified their hollow-core slabs for the Green Spine Line® certificate earlier this year, after being reviewed by Consolis Sustainability Committee. The certified hollow-core slabs have up to 49% lower carbon emissions in comparison to the Finnish industry standard.

Using Consolis Parma’s low-carbon hollow-core slabs in the housing production, will reduce YIT’s carbon dioxide emissions by approximately four million kilograms per year. That amount corresponds to the average annual emissions of approximately 560 Finns, or 680 car journeys around the world, according to YIT.

Consolis Parma will start delivering the low-carbon hollow-core slabs to YIT’s new residential construction projects as early as November 2022.

Reducing the climate impact is one of the most important challenges Consolis, and the whole building material industry are facing.  This is an important step for Consolis where partnering with our customers is key to understand their customers’ needs, both today and in the future, with the aim of developing our customers’ long-term business.

“Consolis is committed to the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi), to reach net zero global emissions by 2050. This strategic customer partnership where the Finnish Green Spine Line® hollow-core slabs are used is a major step for Consolis to reduce the environmental impact. We are determined to take the lead in the sustainable transformation of our industry,” says Mikael Stöhr, CEO Consolis Group
