New footbridge design with longest box beam ever provided

On the new railway line between Ringsted and Copenhagen in Denmark, a new footbridge was recently built at Ølsemaglevej, Køge. Spæncom provided precast columns and box beams for the 4m wide footbridge. With a span of up to 24 meters and an element weight of over 34 tonnes, it is the longest box beam Spæncom has delivered.

Assembly for both projects was divided into two stages, one for the E20 motorway and one for the future railway line. The assembly for the motorway elements took place over the weekend of 13-15th November to minimize disruption. The assembly took place at night when traffic could be restricted to a single for north and southbound traffic.  The stage for the future railway line was installed in the first week of December during normal working hours.

In addition, Spæncom has developed a special bridge plate/panel, located on the beams which acts in the same way as a traditional insitu concrete topping.

The bridge has a slight curve at the centre, so it was possible to reuse an existing column and foundations.
