In this large hospital project, BIM has been utilized through the whole construction process, and BIM-based collaboration has been extensive. The jury appreciated BIM-based co-operative design with end-users and the use of the model in different stages of implementation. The fabrication and operations management of timber and precast elements was executed BIM-assisted. An example of the innovations utilized in the project is the use of AR in visualizing the drawings. The final model will be part of the maintenance manual and used to support maintenance.

The new hospital in the city of Kajaani will offer general and specialised healthcare activities and social services. It will also be responsible for emergency on-call services for the whole region. The key selection criteria for the precast concrete supplier were in-depth experience and reliability. “During project development, many cost-effective alternatives were sought for the precast elements, and Rajaville was selected as the best supplier for the tender “says Kainua Alliance Project Director, Kimmo Ahonen from Skanska Oy. “Cooperation with Rajaville has been very open and collaborative” Kimmo Ahonen added.

Concrete is the dominant material in the construction of hospital buildings in Finland. Parma’s precast concrete frame has been selected for many projects currently under construction, such as the Children’s Hospital in Helsinki, Tampere University Hospital centre in Tampere, Turku, a new Pohjola-hospital and a hospital in Seinäjoki.
